Long Beach Museum of Art Celebrates 60 Years!

The Long Beach Museum of Art is located on Ocean Blvd, in the Bluff Park neighborhood of Long Beach. The museum occupies the historic 1912 Elizabeth Milbank Anderson house and carriage house (both attributed to architect Charles Alonzo Rich), and a new two-story pavilion, and includes oceanfront gardens (Wikipedia). Currently featured is an exhibition called A Light in the Shadow – Decades of Art by Women, fascinating works providing insight into the experiences of female artists. It runs thru Jan. 2, 2011. Surf & Turf The Museum is there for the art, but the views are just spectacular, especially from the patio dining area. Claire’s Restaurant features a great Blackened Salmon BLT and their 5-cheese ravioli. For breakfast, try their creative Crème Brulée French Toast. Claire’s is also known for its crazy fountain, which they thankfully turn off when the afternoon breezes kick up. It’s open Tue-Fri, 11-3, and Sat/Sun from 8-3. Come on the weekend for a great breakfast or brunch. It’s a family-oriented place with terrific views. Reservations aren’t always needed, but to be safe, call them at 562-439-2119 x-270. Also, check out the Museum Store. It’s small, but has collectables, nice books on art and some intriguing art jewelry.
